When I was growing up in New Jersey, I received many dog and horse
books for Christmas and birthdays. One year I was given a copy of
the then-current issue of the AKC’s Complete Dog Book, and
there was Vigow! I memorized the page and dreamed that some day
I would share my life with a Borzoi.
Our first was Daphne, purchased as a beloved pet from David Harmon,
of Harmony Kennels in New York State. She is pictured above with
our daughter, Dana, in 1981. She broke our hearts when she died
suddenly in front of our eyes, at age three.
We then met Mary Haigh
and Karen Staudt-Cartabona, who helped us continue our love affair
with Borzoi……….

At
a service area along the Massachusetts Turnpike, on our way to
Cape Cod, I turned and saw the most magnificent creature I had
ever seen —a large white Borzoi with a very well-dressed
man. I
will never forget that image!
