Karen & Kevin Miller live in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, USA, in a
farmhouse built in 1796 with all their beloved Borzoi. One kennel is
attached to the house; the other is in a separate building close to
the house. The kennels are unheated, but are air conditioned in the
summer to keep the Borzoi cool and comfortable. The elderly house
dogs and new puppies happily share space inside the house with Kevin
and Karen.
Their Borzoi
journey began in 1981, and continues to the present day. The Millers
have been fortunate enough to be studying with, and mentored by
Karen Staudt-Cartabona, of the legendary
Majenkir Borzoi Kennel,
Reg., in Swartswood, New Jersey, USA. That mentorship has brought
the Mikaje Borzoi Kennel some great successes over the years with
several litters co-bred with Karen Staudt-Cartabona. Now, the second
generation of puppies are beginning their promising show careers,
and their incredible male, “Beau”, MSBIS Ch.
Majenkir My Beau at Avalyn, bred by Karen Staudt Cartabona and
Lynne Bennett of
Avalyn Manor
Borzoi, has earned the AKC national ranking as the #4 Borzoi in
Breed and All Breed for 2005. Beau is handled by his owners, Karen
and Kevin Miller. He won 22 group placements and two specialty wins
in 2005.
The Millers believe
that the Majenkir bloodlines most consistently match the AKC
standard, and most closely resemble the Romanoff bloodlines as they
were first imported to the US in the 1800s. Any student of the breed
will discover that the Majenkir bloodlines have produced more
champions than any other in history, and continue to this day. For
this reason, all breedings are line bred on Majenkir stock.
Every breeding is
carefully planned and researched by studying five generation
pedigrees, and under the watchful eye of Karen Staudt-Cartabona to
insure that the best matches are being made. Great consideration is
given for health, conformation, and temperament, going back
generations.
